Get a handle on it
Ash is strong wood, but don't leave the tool in the rain if you can avoid it, it will eventually weaken the wood. I would have bought a fiberglass handle, but didn't see one this size. The nose is slice cut about 6" back into the taper, I suppose to help accommodate varying degrees of taper difference, as this is a universal replacement for several tools. After I used this part to replace a shovel handle, I taped the joints at the connection with masking tape and poured about a tablespoon of Gorilla glue into the shovel end to run down into the taper area and surround the wood and fill the gaps. This will secure the handle and prevent wiggle, as the tapers were close but not a perfect match. Likely, due to this, I won't be replacing the handle too easily in the far future, hopefully I ... Nice and stout.
Perfect size for replacement on my garden fork. I did have to shave some of the tapered end using a rasp to get a perfect fit. Nice and sturdy! They even included the pin that secures the handle to whatever you are attaching it to.
